 2) Surface Preparation

All surfaces must be clean, free from loose or peeling paint grease, oil, dirt, rust, mill scale and other

contaminants.  If this is not adhered to, the drying and adhesion will be adversely effected.

  Previously Painted Surfaces:

Dull any gloss areas by light sanding to enhance adhesion.  If necessary prime with Ronan Sticktite

  White or Prime-All

Wood Surfaces: Clean to eliminate oil, grease, and other contaminants.  Prime with Ronan Prime All

Metal:  Remove loose rust and scale with a wire brush, steel wool and or sandpaper.  All oil, grease

and contamination must be removed.  Acidic or alkaline surfaces should be neutralized.

  Prime with Ronan Universal Primer.

Galvanized Metal and Aluminum:  Surface should be wiped with a solvent to remove oil & grease.

A mild solution of phosphoric acid should be used for etching to achieve a good bond.

If acids are not available slight surface sanding will be helpful.  Prime with Ronan Universal Primer.

Concrete:  A white powdery deposit (efflorescence) often found on concrete and masonry surfaces

should be completely removed with stiff wire brush.  New concrete should set for 4 to 6 weeks

before painting.  All concrete surfaces should be etched with a solution of 4 parts water to 1 part

muriatic acid. Let solution soak on surface for 15 minutes before rinsing with clean water. Allow

48 hours to dry before painting.  Prime with Ronan Prime-All.

MDO Plywood:  Clean surfaces to eliminate oil, grease, and other contaminants.  Prime face with

Prime all.  All edges should be puttied and then primed with 2 coats of Ronan Prime-All.

Masonite:  Clean surfaces to eliminate oil, grease, and other contaminants.  Prime with Prime-All

 3) Application

After surface preparation instructions, stir paint thoroughly before use.  Matte paint can be brushed,

rolled or sprayed.  If using on exterior surfaces, use protective clear coat after paint has dried.

When topcoating with any protective clear coat  always test a small area first to determine

compatibility and ensure the clear coat will not lift or discolour the matte paint.

  Application Conditions:

  Minimum Temperature 50F (10C)

  Maximum Temperature 95F (35C)

  Maximum Humidity (90%)

At all temperatures adequate ventilation is required for the protection of the applicator due to the

  volatile solvents in the paint.

 4) Thinning

The Matte Series are packaged in a semi paste form.  Observe all applicable VOC laws.

Whether the paint can be thinned depends on the end use process and local VOC limits.

If thinning is appropriate use Mineral Spirits.  Excessive thinning will cause the pigment to separate.

When making stains, add 5-10% Sign Finishing Clear to the Matte Series Solvent Mixture.

 5) Tinting

All Ronan Matte Series may be intermixed to create new shades, tints and tones.  They may be

tinted with up to 4 ounces per gallon of universal colors or 118.29 milliters per 3.7854 liters.

 6) Clean Up

Use Mineral Spirits - never pour down the drain.

Dispose of cloths carefully soaking in water before disposal

 7) Drying Times

At 70 Degrees F (21.1C) and 50% relative humidity, the Matte Series will dry to the touch in

1 hour.  Wait 2 hours to handle and 8 hours to recoat.  Wait a full 24 hours for a full cure.

Dry times may take longer in cooler and/or more humid environments.
